Who We Are

In 2008 after a 2 year hiatus, with no Taekwondo club in Titahi Bay and due to a previous club closing down, Paleti  Murphy saw an opportunity to open a completely new club. Through the support of Principal-Dairne Kaimoana he secured Titahi Bay Intermediate School Hall as a venue.
Founding members were Sarah Murphy-Simmons, Kieran Murphy-Simmons, Newton Sythong, Olivia Sythong, Sarah McMillan and Jasmine McMillan.
In 2016 Paleti was invited to join the Han Lee Taekwondo organisation.  The club was consequently renamed Titahi Bay Han Lee Taekwondo Club.

What is Taekwondo?

Tae  Kwon  Do (also known as Taekwondo) is the art of self defence that originated in Korea. It is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, reaching back over 2,000 years. The name was selected for its appropriate description of the art: Tae  (foot), Kwon  (hand), Do  (art).

Tae Kwon Do first gained acceptance as an Olympic sport when it appeared as a demonstration event in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. Tae Kwon Do became a full medal sport competition beginning in 2000 at the Sydney Olympics.

The combination of Taekwondo as both an art and a recognised sport (Olympic) provides a balanced way to encourage the development of a disciplined way of life.
